Google has introduced an innovative tool aimed at enhancing the video creation experience equipped with artificial intelligence. The new feature, known as Google Vids, is being rolled out to a select group of Google Workspace users. Announced recently, this tool aids users through various stages of video and presentation creation. However, it differs from AI video generation platforms like Runway or Pika, as it focuses on supporting aspects such as scriptwriting, adding stock visuals, crafting background music, and generating voiceovers through AI. Users can also capture video or audio of themselves to incorporate into their projects.
Google Vids is designed to streamline the workflow for specific Google Workspace tiers, including Business Standard, Plus, Enterprise Standard, Plus, Essentials, and Education Plus. Additionally, subscribers of Gemini Business or premium education add-ons will gain access to this tool. The introduction of Google Vids enables users to leverage Gemini's features to quickly create initial drafts for videos or presentations.
A standout characteristic of Google Vids is the "Help me create" functionality, which produces an editable storyboard filled with stock media, scripts for each scene, text, and background music. Users simply need to submit a prompt, select a document from their Google Drive, and choose a desired style to kick things off. The platform additionally offers a variety of templates to jump straight to the storyboard phase. One of the particular advantages of Google Vids is its acceptance of external content, such as Google Docs, Slides, and various media files, which enriches the AI's comprehension of the final video structure.
Furthermore, the tool includes a "Recording studio" feature, allowing users to enhance their projects by adding personal audio or visual recordings. Unlike traditional AI-powered text-to-video systems, Google Vids does not create videos independently. It serves as an assistant, piecing together elements of a video storyboard while considering the contextual cues from the user's prompt, before handing it back to the user for final adjustments.
Google has announced that all AI-enabled features within Google Vids will be available to users without limitations until December 2025. However, they have indicated the possibility of implementing usage restrictions starting in early 2026.
