For those who enjoy the nuances of role-playing games, the experience often straddles the line between strategy and mischief. A new turn-based RPG embraces the more rebellious side of gameplay, centering on a concept many might be reluctant to confess to having practiced in their adventures.
This practice involves revisiting earlier game saves to rectify decisions or outcomes that didn’t meet player expectations. It’s a familiar scenario: perhaps you’ve made a less-than-favorable choice in a relationship, or a critical strategy backfired in a battle. To avoid the consequences, you simply rewind time, erase the previous attempt, and carry on as if nothing ever happened. Whether it’s navigating emotional entanglements in a sci-fi universe or experimenting with new equipment in a fantasy realm, this technique has found a home within the player community.
However, not many games actively acknowledge this tendency. Enter Saveseeker, an indie title set to launch next year, which fully embraces the concept of manipulating game saves as a core mechanic.
In Saveseeker, players step into the shoes of Emmer Edette, an optimistic child who uncovers her heritage — she possesses the unique ability to capture moments in time at designated locations around the world. Accompanied by her cantankerous dragon toy, Tippleton, Emmer embarks on a quest to overwrite various pivotal points in the realm and confront her father, a once-revered Hero.
Beyond its charming premise, Saveseeker also appeals to nostalgic gamers with its beautiful pixel art, engaging turn-based mechanics, and a storyline that allows you to recruit defeated adversaries into your party. The developers at Paper Sword Games have teased additional elements of the game, including playful commentary on familiar tropes, culinary delights, and emotional exploration, heightening anticipation for its expected release in 2025.
